Drinking Age
Underage drinking is a major problem in the USA and a risk
that attracts many developing adolescents and teens. The United States has one
of the highest drinking age in the world if am not mistaken. A lot of teenagers
consume alcohol before they even turn the drinking age which is 21, but do
people really consume their first alcohol at the age of 21? And at the age of
21 are they really matured enough to start drinking? I bare to differ, underage
drinking is really serious and can cause some major problems in the brain.
Alcohol is the most currently used and abused drugs in the United States.
According to statistics about 4,300 annual death results from alcohol
consumption and most of these cases are teenagers who are under the age of 21. The
current drinking age forces children under the age of 21 to experiment alcohol
at unsupervised places before they even turn 21. Is the law for alcohol
drinking age not effective enough? What
are some of the measures the government is taking to prevent these young adult
from purchasing alcohol before turning 21. In most high schools you hear these
young kids saying it’s not hard to get alcohol and on a serious note some
parents also know their teenagers consume alcohol.
Statistics shows that about 90% of the people with addiction
started drinking at the age of 18 and the government spends about $ 500 million
dollars on prevention of underage drinking . We can’t blame the
government that much because at least some measures are being taken to prevent
the consumption of alcohol in teenagers. In some states alcohol is not sold in
grocery store you would have to go to an alcohol licensed to store to get one.
Are the sellers selling these alcohol to the kids or someone older is getting
the alcohol for them.
When young people try alcohol they do not realize the
damaging effects drinking can have on their own lives. The communities should
join forces and educate these teenagers on how bad alcohol can affect them when
they start drinking at a young age.
I agree with you Yaa, Drinking alcohol is a serious problem in the US and has a negative effect for the brain. We have to educate them to avoid this issue.
ReplyDeleteSAlcohol doesn't kill, it's the abuse of alcohol that kills people. Middle schools have programs that teach about drugs and alcohol and the negative effects of these drugs. I do agree that there needs to be more. Perhaps an extensive program weaved into health education. Though primarily, family is and always will be the pillar that almost all youth will think about before they choose to drink. Granted, some families are less then a good example and might even encourage a lifestyle choice to party hardy. For the better parts of society, the moral choices are visible to teens. I disagree that drinking at a young age can affect a youth. It is the amount and the potency of the drink. I feel that in America we give a great disservice to our youth by now cracking open a bottle of vino with our family dinners. In the times past, wine was the drink that existed to quench the thirst and hydrate the body.
