Legalize Marijuana

Legalizing Marijuana has always been a major topic of discussion, and in the past years Colorado passed a law if you are 21 or older you may have the possession of 1 ounce of weed as long as you can prove you are 21 or older. Why haven't other states pasted this law yet? One of the biggest arguments people have about legalizing marijuana is that unlike alcohol, you can not become addicted, and there have been many health related stories about how Medical Marijuana has cured/ reduced diseases.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union in 2010 52% of drug arrest were because of weed, and from 2001-2010 over 7 million people were caught for having marijuana.  If all states legalize marijuana, the percent of arrest would decrease tremendously.

What if the Government put a tax on marijuana, like there is with alcohol and tobacco? How much money would they make? Think of all the people you know who smoke weed, and how often. How much would they be paying in taxes?
And if over 50% of Americans support legalization, why not?

  1. It is so funny how the government put the middle class person in jail for selling marijuana. If a upper class person is seen with marijuana, he or she gets a slap in the wrist. The government have the audacity to say America believe in justice.

  2. I agree but how would they control the distrubution of it? I do think it would be a huge profit if they did tax it and eventually it will be legalized like alchol was after prohibition.

  3. It funny how the government does not allowed marijuana to be legal (in some state) but allows people to smoke cigarette which contains so many chemicals and is harmful to the body. I'm sure that if it was legalized, America a lot of money from the taxes. If it was legalized, more taxes that would go toward jail could go toward pay of American debt.

  4. I think it should be legal. it will decrease arrest and help fight the war on drug. if its legal there is no need to it be getting smuggled in the United states not to mention that it will increase income
