Drinking age

The drinking age of alcohol in all the states of America is 21, but it has not stopped the fetal accidents which result to underage drinking.

One sunny afternoon on I-495 highway, there were many cars on the road. Some drivers were blasting their music so loud that it was difficult to listen to the sweet melodies of the trees as they waved side by side. Suddenly, there was a loud noise ahead of the cars. All the cars came to a complete stop as firefighters, ambulance, and police drove to the emergency lane. The road was shut for two hours due to a deadly accident. The driver who drove 2002 Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police at the scene, he was a 21 year old male who was driving under the influence. He left other passengers seriously injured. This was a result to an immature young adult. It did not make headlines because the media was not involved. This tragedy would not have occurred if politicians did not limit the drinking age of alcohol to 21. Over the years, there has been numerous tragedies involving drivers, driving under the influence. Congress should enforce laws to increase the age of drinking to 24 years old.

During the teacher festival at NOVA last spring semester, English professor was in tears because she lost one of her students from a toxicated male driver.  In industrial society such as America where alcohol consumption is limited to a certain age. The New York Times wants to return the drinking age to 18, and enforce it . There would be more fetal accidents in the coming years if there is no action to limit the drinking age. If lawmakers set the drinking age to 21, not only are they endangering the person's life but also others.

These young adults ages 18-21 are still in college. Some of them still lives with their parents. At times, they are forced to fit in a specific group because of peer pressure. For this reason, they can do anything to impressed their friends even if it means consuming alcohol. Drivers who are under the age of 24 are the caused of the major fatal accidents involving driving under the influence. http://www.samhsa.gov/underage-drinking-topic

What can underage drinking cause in a person's life?
1.Under age drinking can cause the reduction of testosterone in males.
2.It can interfere with the male sex life and ability to reproduce.
3. In females, it can cause birth defects in pregnancy
4. It can lead to poor judgment
5.It can get an A's student in trouble with the law such as jail
6.It can damage the person's organ such as liver
7.Alcohol is a drug, the person can become addicted to it.
8.The person can lose his or her friends, family, and job.
9. Last but not the least, the person can kill someone or ends up killing his or herself

For this reason, the drinking age limit should be set to 24 years old. Therefore, it should be illegal for anyone under the age of 24 to consume alcohol. Next time congress wants to pass a law, they need to take it into consideration of how it is going to impact people's life.
