What do we owe to our government? Of course there are the basic legal obligations that each citizen has, like paying taxes, but what responsibilities do we really have to our government?
Lets look outside of the strictly legal and start from the top. What does a government look for out of its people?
Former president JFK infamously said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." This paints a great picture of what we ought to be our responsibility to our government.
No matter how counter cultural this might be for our day and age, self sacrifice has always been viewed as noble. In america we have heroes memorialized from this mindset. The most prestigious award in the military is the Medal of Honor. This medal is awarded when a service member shows "Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty." In other words, no one asked them to do what they did, they saw an opportunity for sacrifice, even sacrifice at the cost of their own life, and they courageously stepped forward.
Unfortunately not everyone wants to or is even able to step up to the task of denying themselves. Honestly this is hard.
However, heroes have never been born "heroes", they have made crucial decisions at pivotal junctures in their lives. When opportunity came to them they seized it by the horns and rode it out.
So, what does the government want from you, and conversely, what do you owe to the government?
Self sacrifice.
We owe it to the government that serves us to repay it and serve it back. This comes in all sorts, volunteering in your local community, or even running for office.
A little sacrifice does the soul good.

Responsibilities as a citizen
Every country has its laws and rules. As a citizen of this country it is our responsibility to abide by these rules and regulations because without them everyone will do what they want. As citizens we are obliged to be responsible and perform our duties right. Our responsibilities as a citizen will be; obeying rules and regulations of this country.
Some rules and regulations are; every citizen should support and defend the constitution, by respecting and obeying the federal law, participate in your local community, respect the rights, beliefs and opinion of others, Participate in your local community, serve on a jury when called upon, defend the country if the need should arise, pay income tax and other tax honestly.
Every citizen is responsible for abiding by these rules.

Responsibilities as a citizen
Responsibilities as a Citizen
Citizen responsibilities to our government should be pretty straightforward. Do not kill, do not steal, pay taxes etc.
When you become a resident or a citizen of a certain country or state you automatically consent to the laws of that particular country or area. On the other hand, the government was created for the people. To help and guide society.
Therefore when it comes to responsibilities, it is subjective to the place or country where you live. For example some countries require you to serve some time in the armed forces.
However when it comes to the U.S. I believe your only responsibility as a citizen should be to follow the law.
According to the U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services (www.uscis.gov) there are several rights and responsibilities to a U.S. citizen. Some responsibilities they mention are:
- Support and defend the Constitution.
- Stay informed of the issues affecting your community.
- Participate in the democratic process.
- Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws.
- Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others.
- Participate in your local community.
- Pay income and other taxes honestly, and on time, to federal, state, and local authorities.
- Serve on a jury when called upon.
- Defend the country if the need should arise.
Some of these responsibilities are legally required of every citizen according to the USCIS.
So in conclusion your only responsibility the government as a citizen is to follow the law of the land. Everything else similar to helping out thy neighbor and such, does not fall under a responsibility to our government but rather a responsibility to humanity and a moral guide.
We have many responsibilities to the government. One responsibility to the government, which is one I am not fully for is to pay taxes.
In my opinion, I feel like paying taxes is one responsibility that breaks my heart. I work almost everyday of the week and at least 100 of my dollars is taken out to pay taxes. My hard earned money is used to pay taxes for the workers to work on the road, for social security and for Medicare and Medicaid.
These things are wonderful, but as a young person working I would like to see some of my hard earn money, I don't want to use it to pay for road work and social security. My mom always says when your older the young people your age will be saying the same thing. Yet, I am young and I don't want to give up my a sum of my money. I know that If i refuse to pay some of my taxes I can be taken to jail. So everything I check my direct deposit, I sob a little and allow them to take out the money from my check.
In my opinion, I feel like there should be an age like there is to drink and smoke that's in law that says, " At this age.... you must start to pay taxes." At 21 you should start to pay taxes.
Another responsibility to the government is to obey the laws, especially the speed limit. In my personal opinion the speed light is here for a suggestion. I always use to say "some rules are meant to be broken." My mom is such a worry wart and she says the one day I get a ticket for speeding will be the last day I am driving. She said she would take my license away. I think it's a joke; but I know my mom she is really serious.
Speeding isn't good and can cause some serious accidents. I haven't been in one myself but one day as my mom will say if I don't start following the rules my time will come.
A last responsibility of our government would be if you a subpoenaed to go to court, you must come. It doesn't matter if you do not want to go or you don't feel like going. Court is a must. Failure to appear in the courtroom will result in your arrest.

Responsibilities as citizens to our government
My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
That quote symbolizes how every American should think and act when it comes to our great nation. When citizens take care of their country whether paying taxes supporting the troops or helping the economy grow we become stronger as a country. Leading us to happiness and prosperity because when this country succeeds we all do. So the next time you are mad because you have to pay taxes remember that other countries don't have the life style we do the roads the schools and most importantly the freedom so cherish it and enjoy it.Tuesday, July 21, 2015
Introduction
My screen name offers some insight into my political views. The writers of the United States Constitution were heavily influenced by the writings of Montesquieu, a French philosopher. Significant contributions by Montesquieu were the establishment of three branches of government and the separation of power. I am a conservative, a largely misunderstood political belief guided by the idea that the government exists to represent the people rather than to rule over them. As the federal government has grown in size, it has become more intrusive and more inefficient. Our current representatives in government have lost sight of their duties and as government programs continue to fail, the only solutions they provide are more government intrusion. When our representatives are no longer bound to live under the laws that they impose upon the populace, our government drifts away from the representative republic envisioned by the founding fathers and towards tyranny. We are no longer governed by "the people" and instead are ruled over by a professional political class.
I have proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for nineteen years. In that time, I have watched as the internet went from a technological novelty to being the most powerful source of storing and sharing information in human history. Prior to enlisting, I earned a Associates degree in drafting and have worked in manufacturing and fast food. I am an avid cyclist and enjoy photography and most outdoor activities. I believe the freedom of speech is essential to a free society and that the most dangerous thing a society can do is suppress that speech because it offends someone. I have observed that when discussing ideas with those who have opposing views, our values are often very similar and it is only the means of achieving those values are different. Furthermore, if an idea is truly outrageous and offensive, we as a society are better off for knowing the idiocy of the individual espousing such views rather than allowing them to hide behind the veil of political correctness.

Hi everyone
My name is Yaa Boateng and a student of northern Virginia Community College. I'm an African and originally born in Ghana. My major is nursing and this is my second year at Nova I planned in transferring to George Mason, Shenandoah or Emory University in the next coming year. I love to read novels and fashion magazines because I love to keep up with what is trending and what is out of date.
I am not so much of a blogger but I love to read what people write on their blogs and what kind of information they are trying to get across through their blog.
I also like to keep up with the Government on new laws that are being implemented in the country. for instance the legalization of gay marriage and immigration laws and how it will benefit the people of this country.
